Jaguar XKR

Jaguar XKR

The second generation of the Jaguar XKR was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, and it didn’t take long to spawn several interesting versions. The most recent addition to the list is the 2010 Jaguar XKR with its innovative 5.0L V8 engine with a Roots-type supercharger. The direct-injection engine bring significant improvements in power and torque and but luckily it does so without compromising fuel economy and emissions.

The XKR comes in two versions, the convertible and the coupe. The convertible’s folding cloth top can be raised and lowered electronically in only 18 seconds. According to Jaguar, the appearance of the 2009 and 2010 XKR models has gone through some significant changes. The front bumper, rear LED tail lamps and light clusters are altered, but it probably takes a serious Jaguar fan to spot these differences. Either way, the XKR’s engineers have had more input this time than its designers, and the end result is not bad at all. Apart from the not negligible power of the XKR, there are some other obvious improvements, especially inside the cockpit.

A 21st century supercar would be nothing without its countless hi-tech gadgets, and the XKR has quite a few features to it. Touch-screen-based multimedia system that controls, audio controls, climate control and satellite navigation system that not only look pretty, but are also quick on the uptake. And when it comes to hi-tech, that's not all that the XKR has to offer. It actually has the first pedestrian safety system that has sensors on the front bumper that lift the bonnet if a pedestrian is struck.

Up till now, the Jaguar XK was a pretty car, but not necessarily powerful. With the dawn of the new 2009 and 2010 XKR editions, Jaguar proves to be a serious threat to its German competitors.
