Mercedes SLS AMG

Mercedes SLS AMG

The SLS AMG is the newest addition on the Mercedes list of luxury cars. The model was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, but don’t hold your breath, as production will not begin before mid 2010 (2011 if you’re living in the US). But the SLS AMG is definitely well worth the wait. The car’s design is a hat tip to the 300SL Gullwing, the fastest production car of the 50’s, the first model where the distinctive gull-wings could be seen.

The Mercedes SLS AMG looks like a 21th century version of the Gullwing. Lines are smoother and more aerodynamic, but you can notice the signature long bonnet and short rear. Even if we're in a hi-tech age, the doors will not have an automatic closing system, because this would have added 90 pounds to the car's weight.

The SLS AMG has a V8 6,2 liter engine, developing 571 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 650 Nm at 4750 rpm. The seven speed gearbox features a double clutch system. Every-day speed addicts should be happy with what the SLS has to offer. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3,8 seconds, and it can reach up to 200mph (320km/h). The SLS is definitely not a city car. Due to its proportions it seems that it will be difficult to park in cramped spaces, but these same proportions turn into the car's main assets while driving.

The Mercedes SLS AMG is one of the fastest and most luxurious cars that you will be able to buy starting from 2010. Price: over 140.000 euro. And as some say, the gull wings are definitely worth it.
