Opel GT

The Opel GT is known to many car enthusiasts as the cult car of the 1970’s. The production of this highly successful sport car stopped at the beginning of the 70's after only six years. After more than 34 years, the Opel GT was finally revived. The new model is based on General Motors' Saturn Sky.

The 2007 GT is still a classic roadster, fast and athletic. The new GT's engine is a far cry from the early GT’s. The car uses a 260 horsepower 2.0-liter ECOTEC turbo engine with gasoline direct injection. The engine is buffed up with various features such as twin-scroll turbocharger with intercooler, double camshaft phasing and twin counter-rotating balance shafts. All these goodies allow the GT to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6 seconds, and to reach top speeds of 230 km/h.

The GT needs an average of 9.2 liters of super unleaded gasoline per 100 kilometers, not so much considering other supercars. Besides, the car’s power output is quite impressive, 32 hp output per liter. The GT’s chassis is sporty yet rigid with a wide track and long wheelbase, with all four wheels suspended from twin A-arms made from forged aluminium.

The Opel GT's body is based on the design of the Vauxhall VX Lightning Concept car. The best word to describe the GT is simply dynamic, with its sharp lines and taut surfaces. Inside and outside, the Opel GT is purely a sports car. The cockpit is distinguished by chrome surfaces, black lacquer and leather seats with visible stitching.

Currently, an all electric conversion of the Opel GT is under work in Cincinnati.
