SupercarsSupercars is a very tricky concept, even among car enthusiasts. A few decades ago, the only car popping into the mind when hearing 'supercar' would have been the Batmobile. Lately, though, more and more cars start to resemble with something that you'd only see in films in the past. A supercar is a fast, powerful and sleek car that most people can only dream about.
Just because a car has a decent top speed, it won’t automatically be qualified as a supercar. A genuine supercar has to meet several requirements to deserve this title. The engine is located centrally in almost all supercars, and the body kit should be as eye-catching and outrageous as possible. Of course, the price of the car limits the range of potential customers to a certain well-to-do layer of society.
The concept of supercars is as old as the 1920's, when it was used to describe the Ensign 6. The Lamborghini Miura was the first car officially delcared to be a ‘supercar’ in the 190’s. Since then, supercars have been appearing regularly in the luxury car scene every year. The largest manufacturers of supercars are Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, Bentley and many other hotshot names from the industry. Supercars are usually released in limited editions of sometimes as few as twenty of thirty pieces. Some are turned into racing cars, but most of them end up as collector's pieces or owned by a wealthy car enthusiast.
Supercars are by their nature very fast and beautifully designed, however they are the main material used by tuning companies who turn them into vehicles of unimaginable power. Today there are countless magazines and tv shows that focus on this continuously developing area. The more cutting-edge technology is being invented, the more supercars will glide lightning fast on the roads. |
